I had an infection after a mastoidectomy affecting the scar behind the ear and causing a hole to open up along the scar line to a depth of 1 about a week after Operation. The wound was left for the intermediate week and after my insistence some steri-strips were administered yesterday. I still have a lot of fluid draining though the infection has cleared. I am concerned that applying the strips and cklosing the hole 2 weeks after surgery will be two late and the hole has already healed and so will be difficult to close leaving a permanent hole in place. Am I worrying unneccesarily?
What type of mastoidectomy surgery your undergone? I think it may be simple mastoidectomy. Probably you may develop infection at the site of surgery so the have kept antibiotics locally to relieve infection. Don't worry you will recover soon. Avoid head bath, use oral antibiotics if necessary. Please follow up with your ENT specialist he will examine and treat you accordingly.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
