What Is The Treatment For Constipation?

I have had bad constipation since I was a tiny girl,I am now in my sixties and it is so hard to get a bowel movement even when I take things for it,I take a LOT of prune juice at once and after awhile it will give me painful bowel movement, last week I took it and started to have just a tiny little bit of the bowel come out but it was full of red blood, every few minutes I felt like I had to run to the bathroom and there would hardly be anything but a little tiny bowel movement but bright red blood would pour out,it did that for several hours and then let up..the next morning there was just a little red blood that fell out and then seemed to stop,so now it has been about 6 days since that all came on me,I have taken nothing else for a bowel movement and have not had one at all, there is now blood falling out but if I push something small up in my rectum and pull it out it will have just a little red blood on it. I feel so constipated and hear my stomach making rumbling sounds. I have been concerned about taking something to give me bowel movements because it might have all that red bright blood again. I have allergic reactions to just about everything,so prune juice is what I have taken for a long time, but it sure takes a while and I have to drink a LOT of it before it will start hurting so bad and then start some watered down little bowel movements...what do you predict is going on now? I have had IBS since I was a young kid..here lately I also have a lot of sounds of passing gas,but nothing coming out.

Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query. I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can.
In most cases lifestyle changes and diet are sufficient for improvement. It means : To make your poo softer and easier to pass: drink plenty of fluids and avoid alcohol, increase the fibre in your diet, add some wheat bran to your diet. Good fiber sources include bran and other whole grains found in cereals, breads, and brown rice, vegetables such as brussels sprouts, carrots, and asparagus, Fresh fruits, or dried fruits such as raisins, apricots, and prunes Beans. If there is no improvement then constipation may be caused by several issue. Second, you may at times need to try a laxative such as Fleet Phospho-Soda, Milk of Magnesia, or glycerin suppositories. If there wont be improvement on these measures, you should consider doing diagnostic tests such as colonoscopy, anal sphincter manometry and food allergy testing. In some cases it may be also sign of inflammatory bowel diseases tumors so it should be ruled out if symptoms persist.
I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time.
