What Is The Treatment For Chronic Pain And Headache Post Jaw Joint Replacement Surgeries?

Hello Dr. Grief,
I have chronic pain due to having 6 jaw joint replacement surgeries. The fossa and condyle are all metal and I cannot have an MRI. I have a pain management dr. and I have a neurologist and they both know what medications I take. I am currently looking for a 2 opinion from a neurologist. The past 7 days I have had a headache that will not go away and I am dizzy and my balance is way off. Could you please give me the info that I need if I decide to change neurologists: Thank-you, Connie Peirson

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

I have studied your case.

There is possibility of cranial nerve involvement due to repeated jaw surgery.
As you are not able to do MRI,CT contrast can help you.

When such patient comes to my hospital we usually do routine blood investigation like complete blood count, ESR, CRP, hormone levels like thyroid and prolactin.

Blood investigations are useful tool for screening but there are nonspecific tools available.
Management will depend on clinical examination and investigation reports
If there is some hormone imbalance then hormone supplement with symptomatic treatment.

After clinical examination, Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Wishing you good health.

Take care
