Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello. My husband is 50 years old and is not very fit. Today he was feeling pain in his chest. This happened to him before and all the heart test came back fine. Today I gave him two aspirins and half hour later I took his blood preasure which came out to be 96/66. Should I be concerned with this preasure drop? Should we go to the emergency hospital?
Hi, thank you for the query. I would have love to have more precision like the location, character and duration of the chest pain he has. Many conditions can cause chest pain and in many instances, it is gastritis or peptic ulcer disease. If this were to be the case, then aspirin would worsen it. It would be much easier for me to understand the cause of his chest pain if you describe the pain. If not possible, I would suggest he sees a doctor for proper assessment and management. Concerning blood pressure, the value itself is not really low. Low blood pressure is often considered when the systolic pressure (numerator) is less then 90mmHg. May be this is his baseline blood pressure. Generally, a low blood pressure that is abnormal to the system is often accompanied by other signs and symptoms like an increases in heart rate, dizziness, black outs, fatigue, etc. If he does not have these symptoms, then his blood pressure is normal and if they are present, you need to take him to Emergency department for management.
I hope that helps I wish him well
