What Is The Treatment For Autism And GI Complications?

My brother has autism and GI complications (ileostomy, gastroparesis, adhesions that had to be excised from entire small intestine 15 years ago. Twice in 9 years, he has had acute pancreatitis. He does not drink alcohol. His diagnosis in the past is pancreatic insufficiency and he takes digestive enzymes. No dilation of the biliary duct, gallbladder removed 20 years ago. Is pancreatric insufficiency the same as chronic pancreatitis? He has a lot of pain.

Hello,
Pancreatic insufficiency is the end result of chronic pancreatitis where the pancreas stops functioning as it is supposed to , essentially it has "burned out" thus it does not produce the enzymes needed to digest foods, which is why your brother is on supplements. This will likely never return and will require life long supplements. The pain can be because the chronic pancreatitis and inability to digest properly as well as the multitude of surgeries it sounds he has had.
