What Is The Treatment For Anxiety , Depression And Headache?

25 yrs old, 5'9 1/2 ft tall, and weigh 154 lbs. I had an ekg test done a few days ago. I was told my pulse rate was 118 bpm. I am taking xanax for anxiety as well. I have been monitoring my pulse rate since then. I used a blood pressure arm band that also tells me my pulse rate and it said 140 bpm. I was feeling a bit anxious though. Then next morning it said 124 bpm....also slightly anxious. Are these numbers dangerous? should I be taking beta blockers? I am very scared about medications and side effects. I was on depression medications (celexa, zoloft) for over a month and I suffered bad palpitations and persistent headaches. If my doctor didn't mention anything else in my ekg test besides a high pulse rate is there anything else I should worry about? or ask him when I see him on my next follow-up visit this week? Thank you!!!! Oh and...when I try to take my pulse using my fingers it's always lower around 80 bpms....I don't know if the blood pressure arm band machine is taking my bmp's correctly of if I am doing something wrong counting with my fingers. Please help!

High pulse rate (tachycardia) may be caused by anxiety or smoking as well as several other conditions. Since your doctor has given you a clean chit except for tachycardia, you should not worry about cardiac conditions.
In my practice, I avoid prescribing Xanax for longer period. This is because Xanax is effective in anxiety in short term but has high dependence potential (it is habit forming). Antidepressant medicines give good long term results. Initially they may cause side effects but these usually wear off. The therapeutic (desired) effects may take upto 2 to 3 weeks to appear.
There are several options available in antidepressants. Celexa and Zoloft are both SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors). You may discuss with your doctor possibility of antidepressant from another class such as SNRI (serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors).
You may count in the neck just by the side of and behind windpipe. Or you may get a friend to count your pulse at wrist on the thumb side about an inch above the line joining wrist and hand. Count for a whole minute. Blood pressure arm band may make errors in counting pulse if it is not fitting well.
I hope this answers your question.
