What Is The Treatment For Acne?

My husband, (age 60- 5'11"-approx. 190 lbs), has started having bad acne problems. He has very oily skin. Has been to dermatologist several times. Has used clindimycin, menocyclin, and uses products with salysilic acid. Allergic to sulfa so cannot use those products. At a loss as to what to do. Seems he has tried everything. I feel it may be a hormonal problem - is this a possibility? Any thoughts or ideas??? He is on disability and takes strong meds. for pain

Hi,

Your husband seems acne vulgaris...Adult acne is a common skin problem occuring after tenage age. Multiple factors may be responsible. Hormonal imbalance might be responsible. Let him take to consult dermatologist for the firm diagnosis.however.. I would suggest as below...

- antibiotics like azithromycine and minocycline
- isotretinoin in low dose
- adapalene, benzoyl peroxide or clindamycine gel
- cleansing soap or facewash

Have patience for the good result..

Thanks.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

As per your query your husband has symptoms of acne along with oily skin which is because of hormonal changes and due to fact that there is clogging in skin pores pores gets blocked and oil from sebaceous glands causing acne on face. I would suggest you to wash your face with water frequently. Use cotton dip it in tea tree oil and apply on face. Benzoyl peroxide mixed with water or alcohol combination is the best treatment option for cystic acne. Don't use steroids. Visit dermatologist once if your condition persists and get it examined properly. Laser therapy is another treatment option. You can go for chemical peeling as well and microabrasion and dermabrasion are other possible options. Avoid touching and pricking them.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
