What Is The Treatment For A Lump In The Lower Back?
My daughter is almost 4 years old and since birth has had a lump n hair patch on her lower back right next to her spine. She been sick allot lately with a bad cough for three weeks now she also been complaining of that lump hurting her when I press on it . What should I do? Should I be concerned
Hi ! Good morning. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.
I would advise you not to press or fiddle with the lump on the back of your daughter, and would like to refer her to a general surgeon to rule out any connectivity of the swelling to the spinal canal/cord of her. Once any connection to the spinal column is ruled out, the pain on the lump could be due to inflammation due to friction or infection, and the general surgeon might consider getting it removed and send it for a histo-pathology test. In case investigations show that it is connected with the spinal column, a neuro-surgeon might be called in by the general surgeon for opinion and further management. Till then, you could continue her treatment for the cough and cold.
I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in further management of your problem. Please do not hesitate to ask in case of any further doubts.
Thanks for choosing health care magic to clear doubts on your health problems. I wish you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.
