What Is The Significance Of Epithelial Cells In Urine During Pregnancy?
my daughter is 9 weeks into her first pregnancy and was treated at er for severe dehydration and vomiting and diarea she was told that she also had mild urinary tract infection with white blood cells and epithlelial cells in her urine and some other type o contaminant first of all what are epithlelial cells ,do you think the baby could be at risk?
Hello, the epithelial cells form the lining of the urinary tract. The higher the number of epithelial cells in the urine, the less reliable the specimen. If she has symptoms of urinary tract infection then she should receive treatment no matter what but if she has no symptoms then I think it would be better for her to give a better specimen. You haven't provided the complete urinalysis result, so I could not comment more on it. The biggest danger for her is acute pyelonephritis which means that the infection ascends to the kidneys. The baby would get into danger in such a case. Otherwise a lower urinary tract infection in itself is not a big danger for it. If you'd like more information on the subject then please ask again, adding the urinalysis result. Kind Regards!
