What Is The Risky Level Of Pulse Rate In Adult?

I am a caretaker for a gentleman 88 years old. His blood pressure is normal, however his pulse rate goes from 43 to 48. We called the doctor and he said to continue the medications he is taking and if it dropped lower to call him. My question: how low would put in danger? He lives alone and has been in the hospital with pneumonia. I live 45 miles away from him. I am asking out of concern. Thank you Jerry Rozier

Hello
Welcome to HCM. Thanks for posting your query. I understand your concerns.
Heart rate less than60 is called bradyycardia. As the patient is on many drugs he may be having this low heart rate. Usually beta blockers will cause bradycardia.

But you have not mentioned in the question, about the drugs he is taking. If the patient is stable, with the heart rate of 43 to 48,then no need to worry.

If it goes to below 40..It needs to be attended..

Hope you are happy with answer.

Thank you
