Hi....I m Dr.Kumarbhargav Pathologist....I have done fair number of Platelet apheresis procedures (SDP)....so called only platelet donation....procedures....so i would like to answer your query......
First...it is great you thought about donation....thanks for it....
I know...it is quite life saving....
Now for this platelet donation ....
platelet count of more than 2,00,000/cumm preferred....WHO guideline says...must be more than 1,50,000/cumm...
But platelet count of donor if more in number yield achieved by donation is very good and beneficial for patient receiving it...
Other criteria like
Hemoglobin greater than 12.5 gm, no significant drug or past history....and many others also followed....
So you can donate...platelets.,,if urgent and no other donor available...but for patient benefit....more platelet count donor...would be good...
Also wanted to convey that....1 SDP
unit equals 4-5 random platelet units...
Thanks for contacting.....For any query feel free to ask..
