What Is The Remedy For The Swelling On The Head Due To Bug Bite?
My son is 6 he got a bug bite on his forehead yesterday afternoon. It has since swollen dramatically covering a majority of his for head and onto the upper bridge if his nose and eyebrows. I have had him on Benadryl for the past 24 hours but it is bit helping. He is not in pain. I have prednisone from a Rx filled for him over Memorial Day weekend. Can I give him some of that to help decrease the swelling
Thanks for the query a swelling after an insect bite is a usual phenomena and the sweelling is more pronounced in young children. Sometimes an infection can get added on the area, and as the area of face has plenty of fatty tissue the infection or swelling enlarges quickly.(then will require antibiotics) If there is not any pain (as in your case and tenderness(painful on touching) it is unlikely to be infected. swelling will disappear gradually over a period of 1-3 days , but if it is very itchy, in that case syrup Allegra is a better choice (7.5ml once a day for 1-2 days) as it will cause minimal sedation unlike benadryl.
