What Is The Remedy For The Cold, Cough With Nasal Mucus And Ear Pain With Raining Liquid?

My child has a cough and lots of nasal mucus...a cold. This has been going on for a week. She also has had fluid draining from her ear for several days in absence of any ear pain. I assumed it to be an ear infection that would heal on its own but it s still draining and she has no energy and not much of an appetite. She is almost 8 and otherwise always been healthy. Today I noticed redness and swelling on her outer ear lobe, perhaps irritation due to all the draining?

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history related to your daughter going for a week.
She has running nose, cough, lots of mucus , ear draining the discharge and now the redness over her outer ear lobe. No energy and not much of appetite.

The most probably chronology may be as follows:
This must have been started with flu hence the running nose, turned into pharyngitis causing cough, the forceful coughing opens up the Eustachian tubes causing hte infection to go to the ear which in turn perforate the ear drums to cause discharge and secondary infection causes dermatitis of the pinna/ear lobe

I would advise you the following:
You should not leave this to let it heal approach.
Consult an ENT Surgeon for clinical evaluation, examination, investigations of blood, X-rays and get started with proper antibiotics, oral and topical decongestants, supportive medicines in the form of multivitamins.
Continue the medicines till the child gets cured.
