What Is The Remedy For The Heart Palpitations Making The Person Weak?

I have been experiencing heart palpitations for almost 2 years.I have visited a heart specialist and it was recommended that I have a holter attached for 24 hrs. in order to observe the symtoms. The first time irregularities showed and it seemingly was connected to the leaking mitral valve I have , however, there appeared to be no deterioration of the valve so It was suggested that I monitor the symtoms and go back if necessary-whilst making some life style changes etc. I had to go back to have another holter attached some months later, which again showed palpitations occuring--was told not to worry and if they continued may have to go on beta blockers. The thing is, I do not experience severe symptoms during the 24hr holter phase ,however, palpitations can last for up to 8 hrs at times --leaving me totally exhausted. I was awoken last evening at midnight and experience them for the remainder of the night sleeping a little . I am going to go back to the heart specialist (very soon) but as i was doing some research I came across this site. An observation and comment would be welcome.

Hi Welcome to HCM.
I understand your query and concern.

Rapid heart rate and Dizzy spells can be a definite feature of heart rhythm disturbances.Irregular heartbeat is known to alter the blood supply to the brain leading to impaired function in a transient way.Few drugs like beta blockers are certainly known to reduce the heart rate and accelerate the dizzy spells.I advise you to have a complete 24 hr holter ECG which can accurately determine the cardiac conduction abnormalities.Monitor your blood pressure and heart rate.Drugs like Isoproterenol will help to increase the heart rate.Drugs like amiodarone can also help to minimise the rhythm irregularities.A 2 Dimensional echocardiography will help to assess the functional reserve of the heart ruling out organic heart lesions.Electrophysiological study and Radiofrequency ablation will also help to eliminate abnormal foci of rhythm.Consult your cardiologist for expert management.
