General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, I understand your concern. Your cough seems to be allergic in origin ( the itching nose indicates it.).A long standing allergy causes rise in eosinophils ( A type of white blood cell), which gives rise to dry cough. I would advise you to get your blood count TLC,DLC done. This will differentiate associated infection or pure allergy. The medicines in accordance, will relieve you. Usually Diethyl carbamazine citrate pills along with antibiotics( if needed) & cough syrup are given to such patient. An allergy test to pin point the allergen ,followed by desensitization treatment are advised to get rid of allergy permanently. Thanks.
