What Is The Redness In Toe That Is Spreading?

Thanks... I am an 83 year old female in good shape. I am active and stay busy. I have had two hip replacements and that took care of my arthritis. I have noticed lately that my 2nd and 3rd toes on both feel are very very red. There is no swelling and no pain, but the redness seems to be spreading onward and upward on my toes and the tops of my feet. I am wondering the cause and what I might do about it. I wear sandals a lot in the summer and people continue to ask me, what is wrong with your feel? I hate to see this continue to spread .... can you help me? ( the only medications I take are armor thyroid in the mornings.. nothing else.)

Hello,

Welcome to healthcare magic.

I understand from your query that you are having redness in between your toes.

From your history and description, I would consider the diagnosis of an intertrigo, probably of fungal etiology. It could present as redness between the toes and also cause scaling and fissuring. This is usually common in damp and humid weather, in individuals who work with water where the feet are constantly damp and in diabetics.

You could apply a cream containing 2% Clotrimazole twice a day for 2 weeks. Keep the area dry at all times. Sandals are good for this condition as they keep the area exposed to air.

Do get your sugars checked to rule out diabetes.

Hope this helps you.

Take care.
