What Is The Recovery Time For White Spots On The Tonsils?
I have been on penicillin for nearly a week now (250mg x 2 4 times a day) fofor tonsilitis. I feel loads better but noticed that my right tonsil still has white spots on it, I worried that it is not gone and I finish my tablets tomorrow. Does it take a while for the white spots to go away and will they go away after I finish the tablets?

Hi,
The white spots on one of the tonsils during recovery time while taking Penicillin is most probably a slough and usually is washed off. In some cases it may take some more time but there is nothing to worry if you have improved well symptomatically, size and inflammation of tonsils are reduced, the White Cell count has settled. Hence get a consultation of your Doctor or an ENT Surgeon for review of clinical evaluation and tests of blood. You may be give a further course of 3 to 7 days. If so then also take a probiotic to resettle the intestinal bacterial flora. Continue Povidone Iodine gargles. Take plenty of oral fluids and water in particular as it has self-cleaning effect.
