What Is The Recommended Xanax And Oxycotin Dosage?

Hi, having a problem on going down on my meds. My old doctor has left and had to find another Doctor for my Chronic pain before and after surgery was performed with a bone harvest. All of my cervical have some sort of problems. Now this doctor is taking me down on both my meds at once. Having a huge problem with this and being on both meds for over 8 years is a problem in going down on the dosage. The biggest probem is the xanax of taking 3day 2 pm total of 5mg. I am down to 2 mg at pm only. However it seems like this is the bottom line for me. Trying to take less will not allow me to sleep. The daily anxiety well just have to wait it out, and that s a problem as well. This doctor also took me down at the same time with my oxycotin 20mg 3x day and not only take 20mg 2x daily. In my opinion she has taken me down far too fast for being on for so long. My biggest question is WHY ? My next question would be what is the point if I suffer from hyperthyoidism and chronic pain at all times with a flatten spinal cord. Help is needed in coping with daily and nigh time withdrawls for HOW MUCH LONGER at this dosage if she stops and leaves me at this dosage ? Does this make sense ?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Your concern is right and I feel sorry for the pain you have been suffering from.

However, to be honest, as both Xanax and opioids have got great potentials of addiction and abuse, we recommend being used in minimus amount and only if needed.

The problem with these drugs that they lose their efficacy with time so that you need to take it more and more with time.

So this is not a bad idea to gradually tapper it to the minimum level, though you are right it should be done slowly, but trying to taper it off is quite a good idea.

You may paracetamol with them to some help, for the pain. If you feel very bad and understand that the dose has been reduced very quickly, you may talk to your doctor in this regards.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
