What Is The Reason For Pain In Neck And Swollen Throat?

Hi there. I ve had a neck pain, that I thought was a pulled muscle, for four months now. It has only gotten worse. I went to get a massage yesterday and today it feels as though my throat has swollen and it s painful to swallow. Any ideas? Thank you. Laura

Hello

Welcome in H.C.M.

I have gone through your query regarding pain in neck for last 4 months and yesterday you had taken massage of neck and today your pain is so severe that you can't swallow anything.

Your symptoms are indicating for chronic pain in neck and thus it may be due to-

1- Cervical spondylosis.

2- chronic diseases of spine like tuberculosis.

3- Radiculopathy.

Any of above usually gets worsen after massage. To confirm it you are advice for these investigations.-

a- M.R.I. of cervical spine.

b- X-Ray neck lateral view for soft tissue lateral view.

c- Blood- CBC, ESR, uric acid, serum calcium, blood sugar (F & PP).

d- Elisa test or Tb gold test.

after this you should consult any senior ortho surgeon for examination and treatment.

Regards.
