What Is The Reason For Continuous Vomiting?

My niece s wife was hospitalized after vomiting for more than 3 weeks. She was put in the ICU yesterday and still has not stopped vomiting. She has a lot of acid in her blood and low potassium and electrolytes. She has been unchanged since being admitted. The cause of her vomiting remains unknown. I know she must be in serious condition. What do you think her chances of recovery are?
