Gastroenterologist, Surgical 's  Response
Hi,
How are you? I am so sorry to hear about your Dad's diagnosis. One thing you did not mention is whether he has undergone surgery for the colon cancer. I understand that he is receiving chemotherapy right now.
Provided all the previous scans were normal, unless proven other wise, the new lesion in the liver should be considered as metastasis of the cancer.
Although this might sound bad, the good news is that in case of colon cancer metastasis, resection of the involved liver provides excellent prognosis for the patient . In fact it is currently the standard for care for colon cancer metastasis to the liver, provided there is no spread of cancer elsewhere. So I would not lose hope and get your Dad evaluated with a liver surgeon regarding feasibility of the surgery.

Hope this helped and I hope your Dad feels well soon. Please do not hesitate to contact me for further details.
