What Is The Piece Of Uvula At The Bottom Of My Throat?

My uvula looks as if a piece of it has melted and appears stringy-like at the bottom. The part that appears to be stringy hangs pretty low and often slides down the back of my throat. It doesn t hurt, but is annoying because it often feels like I have something stuck in my throat. It wasn t always like that, so I m not sure why it s like this now.

Hi dear ,

The symptoms you mention in query are pointing towards a condition known as granular pharyngitis . Pharyngitis is the painful inflammation of pharynx. Most of the times caused by viral infection, with the remainder caused by bacterial infection and, in rare cases, oral thrush . There are other reasons also like Reflux of gastric acid (GERD) and post nasal drip . I would suggest you to do warm saline gargles , avoid hot and spicy food , avoid smoking and drinking and consult ENT specialist for proper diagnosis and rule out causes like uvulitis . Doctor may order certain test and may prescribe antibiotics ( amoxicillin ) at least for 10 days along with anti inflammatory .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
