What Is The Medication For Sinus Headaches?

hi, i have had a headache sinus area above nose, and back of head for about 3 days now, i have tacen paracetemol but it doesnt really help, i also have dried blood in my nose, my nose feels blocked at night from around 10pm untill around an hour after i wake then it stays clear untill around 10pm again, but my headache is persistant althought gets worse and better at times, thanks

Hi, thanks for asking from HCM.


I can understand your concern. You are most probably suffering from sinusitis. It is mostly due to bacterial infection. For management, you should

- Inhale steam 4-6 times daily.

- Avoid cold food and drinks.

- Take warm or hot food and drinks. It will relieve sinus pressure.

- For sinus opening and drainage of secretions, you should take combination of cetrizine+xylometazoline+paracetamol after proper prescription.

- For bacterial management, you should take tablet coamoxyclav therapy after proper prescription. Usual therapy for an adult, is 625mg thrice a day for 7-10 days.

- Consult ENT specialist for management if no relief. Sometimes, X-ray paranasal sinuses is needed to rule out chronic sinus infection.
