What Is The Maximum Age For A Person To Undergo Bypass Surgery?

my husband is 81 years old and has a 100% clogged artery and his cardiologist says he doesn't want him to have surgery because of his age. he just gave him some pills to help his heart he says but it scares me because I feel I am riding with a ticking time bomb. How old is too old to have by pass surgery? My friend lives in Central Ca. and went for a second opinion to UCLA and she had surgery (They went in thru her artery on her neck. ) but she is 76 years old. We live near Stanford and could you refer a cardiologist from Stanford that I could take him to?.

Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is understandable to be concerned.

You can ask your GP for a referral to another cardiologist.

Additional you can use the web to locate a cardiologist in the specific area. Some web pages that may be able to help you are : (1) the american college of cardiology has a Find a cardiologist section on their web site

(2)healthgrades.com

(3) web md physician directory

(4)american medical association doctor finder

I hope this helps
