Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 45 year old son today has a large lump come up on the back inside of one of his knees. It is a leg that he had ACL surgery on several years ago. It is the a size between a golf ball and a tennis ball. It is not hot, red, blue or painful other that pressure. It is Saturday evening and we live in a rural area and he would not go to a hospital ER unless something else changes. We will try to get in to see a doctor first of the week. Is there anything in particular we should do or not do? Any sign to look for? Thanks
Hello and welcome to HCM, A history of ACL surgery and development of lump on back of the knee could be due to development of a bursa or cyst in the region adjoining the knee joint. A clinical assessment of the lesion and X-ray of the knee joint is required to look for any communication between the lesion and the knee joint. If there is no communication, the cyst can be surgically removed.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
