What Is The Life Expectancy Of A Person Whose Is On Ventilation?

my brother is in ICU for 5 months following bariatric surgery. On vent, prisma for kidneys and horrific bedsore. BP is 70/30 today. My sister-in-law wants no more heroic measures performed on him. With this in mind how long will he last with a current BP of that low?

hello.
thanx for your query on HCM,
your brothers condition is not that good.
but as far as the life expectancy is concerned, nothing can be said with certainty.
as he is battling from the past 5 months, he will still battle it out in coming days also.
ICU care will ensure that he is regularly monitored and all his parameters will be kept stable.
do keep giving him the treatment.
there is a possibility of him recovering back to normalcy and gaining the previous normal life.
it may take a bit of time, but there are chances of things drastically improving also.
do keep talking regularly with the hospital staff, they will tell the ground reality of things. do see for the functioning of various body parts like liver, kidney and so on...things will improve

Hello,
The patient in question has a bad bed sore post surgery, and a low BP. The low BP is in most likelihood a manifestation of sepsis, an infection of the blood, as bacteria from the bed sore would have spread into his blood. It is a very treatable condition. Sepsis is very serious, of course, but with appropriate antibiotics and supportive measures, in the form of cardiac supportive measures, and breathing supportive measures, the outcome is very good.
So I would say allow the doctors to do their job, allow the heroic measures to be taken, because there is a good chance that this patient will recover.
Even renal failure happens in such circumstances due to decreased blood pressure and once the vital signs normalize and the infection resolves, the patient can regain his kidney function.
Regarding his lifespan, he might not have a very long and healthy life, considering the comorbidities that are associated with obesity, however, obese people do live well into their 60's and even beyond, especially if they take care of their health.
Best regards.
