What Is The Life Expectancy For A Aplastic Anemia Patient?

Good day Doctor/s...checking onbehalf of my cousine who is around 37 years old and recently diagnosed with Aplastic anemia..I don't have the current blood count results with me now...all I want to check is what is the survival rate for this disease...he is undergoing tremendous mental pressure now and y'day I heard his body started swelling also...Could you please give me a generic idea abt this disease and treatment so that I can boost him with good thoughts..

I understand your health concern, if I am your doctor I suggest you that aplastic anemia is caused by deficiency of the germ cells which produces variety of blood cells. The severity of the disease will depend on the degree of absence of germ cells. I advice you to do bone marrow examination and thereafter the treatment options can be decided. But usually the treatment option is bone marrow replacement. The response to treatment is variable and depends on person to person.
