What Is The Golf Ball Sized, Hard Bump Below My Kneecap?

I have a larger than a golf ball sized, hard bump straight down from my kneecap maybe an inch. It's slightly red and warm to the touch. It is also directly underneath the scar from a knee surgery done 9 years ago to repair a dislocating kneecap. Very painful, weakness and most noticeable when the knee is bent. It was a very sudden onset of pain symptoms. Any ideas?

Hello,
I have gone through your query and understand your concern.
I suspect you are suffering from either Osgood-Schlatter disease or Patellar Tendonitis.
Osgood-Schlatter disease is inflammation of the bone and surrounding soft tissue just below the knee. It occurs at the point where the tibia (shinbone) attaches to the tendon of the kneecap (patellar tendon).
Patellar tendinitis is an injury that affects the tendon connecting your kneecap (patella) to your shinbone.

There is no special investigation needed to diagnose this condition.
Because Usual X-Ray does not show patellar tendon.
You have give rest and avoid exercise that stresses the patellar tendon until the swelling and pain go away.
This may be as short as 1 to 2 weeks, or as long as three months or more.
Once the swelling and pain subside, limit those same activities to help prevent recurrence.
If you have severe pain, you can apply heat pad or ice pack for 15 to 20 minutes .
In addition, you can take NSAIDS Non Steroidal Antiinflammatory Drugs like Ibuprofen to control pain and inflammation.

Hope this helps.
Please write back for further queries.
Wishing you good health.
