Your symptoms may be sugesstive of significant problem in lungs like
bronchiectasis, pneumonitis , allergic
hyperreactive airway disease (like asthma)or chronic bacterial infection like tuberculosis . Though less likely even malignancy of lungs can present with
chronic cough and hemoptysis (blood in sputum).
For a confirmation of diagnosis a thorough clinical examination and investigation by a physician or preferably a chest physician is required.
He might order certain tests like xrays or
high resolution CT scan of chest, lung function tests, complete blood counts, esr and similar blood tests depending on the findings on examination.
The treatment would depend on the diagnosis, for eg antibiotics or antituberculosis drugs in case of infection, steroids in case of allergy and
bronchodilator medications(inhaled and oral) for relief of cough and breathlessness.
As of now you should not neglect your symptoms and the weight loss could be indicating that your problem is long standing.Once treatment is started you wil surely have much relief and improvement in your health.
Meanwhile you should have high protein high calorie nutritious diet , A multivitamin supplement as prescribed,drink plenty of water to maintain hydration and practice deep breathing exercises as per doctors advice.
