What Is The Duration To Wean Off A Medicine?

I have been on metoprolol 100mg 2x daily and my Dr is going to wean me off this medicine and try another. How long does it take to wean off of and will he prescribe another med at the same time i am weaning off the metoprolol? I am a 50 yo male, with no other problems except HBP. My weight is 205
