What Is The Dosing Interval For Diphenhydramine?

Hello I need to help my adult sister in law with dosing Benadryl for some bug bites. I am an RN but have not given Benadryl for some time as I work in another non patient care area. What is the redosing interval for diphenhydramine? I know we would give up to 50mg at night for a sleeper at HS

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Benadryl can be given every 6-8 hours. So, if you give her 1-2 capsules every 8 hours, she should be fine.

It may cause some drowsiness, so if she will need to drive or do activities that need concentration, it may be good to avoid Benadryl during the day (she can still get the dose before bedtime).

I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
