What Is The Diagnosis For The Painful Joints And Low Iron Content?

My husband has been ill for10 weeks now. He has been having medical consultations and tests but there is nothing they can pinpoint. The only thing that is out of the ordinary is a low iron level. His symptoms include extremely painful joint pain that eases and the returns with furious vengeance. Lethargy and now extreme "pissed offishness" if I can say this. He has been told it is a unknown virus and to wait til it passes. All NSAID he has been given do not work. He does not have arthritis and has an amazingly high pain threshold. But I can hear his cries of pain from his (temporary) bedroom at night when he moves. On January 27 his knee swell so big he went to a dr who drained his knee and gave him a cortisone injection. He is allergic to cortisone and broke out in hives all over and the pain to joints intesified. He is a builder and does maintenance For the public housing department and deals with some very filthy conditions. He was working on one in particular just before th symptoms started to occur. He may have contracted something from there, or not. Someone suggested he may have a parasitic infestation. Have you heard or seen anything that the local gp may have missed that could help him.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
There is chances that he may have viral fever and followed by arthralgia. This type of joint pain is quite severe and make take long time to recover. I would advice your husband to show to a rheumatologist. He will require blood investigation like Anti ccp antibody, RA factor and ESR. if these test suggest that he has rheumatoid arthriitis than he will be treated accordingly.
