What Is The Cure For Itching, Redness And Swelling On The Area Where Tetanus Was Given?

I am a 69 yo female. I got a tetanus shot yesterday. Tonight the site is itching, red, swollen and hot. I just put some Benadryl cream on it. Is there anything else I should do? Oh yes, I have had an infection around a tooth implant for about 2 months and just finished my third course of antibiotics.

Hello,
Welcome to HCM,
It may be adverse event following injection (AEFI),It may be due to faulty injection technique, local reactions following injection or allergic to the TT injection or to its preservatives used.
Most of the time it may not require any treatment it will subside by itself. If there is swelling and redness you can apply hot packs on the swelling and can take oral NSAIDs.
If there is any abscess or loss of sensation in the limb to which injection is given, you have to consult your doctor for further advise.
Thank you.
