What Is The Cause Of The Cough And Pressure On The Chest?

Hi, I'm 30 years old, 5 foot 8, 138pounds and very active. For the past 6 weeks, I've had a pressure on the right side of my chest when I breathe which causes me to cough all the time when taking deep breath or walking to work. I sometimes have chills at night and short of breath when walking for a while.I was prescribed anti-biotics because my doctor believed it was pneumonia due to chest pain, bloody taste when coughing a lot and chills. I was sent for X-rays but they later came back normal. After finishing the anti-biotics, I was still coughing and was sent for another x-ray to see if there was something but it too came back normal. I'm still feel a pressure when breathing deeply and I cough of lot because of it, have chills at night on occasion, feel a little dizzy at times. None of the medications helped. I was prescribed Tussionex, Montelukast, and Advair. Nothing is working. I did an PFT and Asthma test over a year ago but everything came back normal. My doctor is puzzled ordered some blood work including CBC, sugar and cholesterol but everythign came back slightly better than normal. Therefore, I was referred me to Respirology but my appointment is not before 3 months. I don't think that I'm crazy. I'm writing here to see if anyone had any idea of what this could be?

Pulmonologist 's  Response
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your situation and problem.
Yes, you should definitely consult pulmonologist and get done
1. Clinical examination of respiratory system
2. Detailed PFT (Pulmonary Function Test)
3. HRCT (high resolution CT).
Possibility of small airway disease like bronchiolitis, early fibrosis etc is more.
So detailed PFT and HRCT are needed.
If these are normal then no need to worry for lung diseases.
Sometimes heart diseases can also cause chest tightness, breathlessness, cough etc.
So get done ecg, 2d echo and stress test.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health. Thanks.
