What Is The Cause Of Painful Eye And Ear Infection?

Hi, I have had pain in or behind my left eye since 5/31. Complete eye exam did not reveal anything. Suggested I see a Neurologists. I did and had a Brain MRI. The PA said my MRI didn t show anything. The results actually showed: Scattered focal areas of increased T2 signal within the supratentoril white matter without evidence of restricted diffusion. These findings are nonspecific. Differential diagnosis would include microvascular ischemic disease, gliosis, or focal demyelination. There is an increased incidence of focal areas of increased T2 signal in the whilte matter of patients with migraine and/or tension type headache. No evidence of parenchymal hemosiderin deposition. No evidence of hydrocephalus. Inflammatory changes involving the right mastoid air cells. I do have migraines but this pain in not that. I also had a right ear infection. What is wrong with me? I still have this pressure and pain behind the Left eye which gets worse. Nothing seems to help. I m 64, 190 pounds, 5 11 .

Hi,

Noted your history about pain behind left eye and undergoing the opinions of Specialists, MRI and so on. The cause of the pain behind left eye can be due to sinusitis and such related areas as a referred pain that has not been evaluated.

You also have inflammatory changes in right mastoid hence consult for second opinion of an ENT Surgeon for clinical evaluation and CT scan of the para nasal sinuses which may show some changes. If found then you have to for further management.

Get thyroid function tests along with other tests for any general disease. Rule out Hypertension as this can be cause of vascular headaches. Take a second opinion of another Eye Surgeon.

I hope this answer helps you. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant.
