What Is The Cause Of Low Temperature With Ear Infection?

I took my 3.5 yr old to his pediatrician today for croup and as it turns out also a mild ear infection. Prescribed oral steroid (one time dose) and we are waiting to see if the ear infection clears before trying antibiotics. He has been running a low grade (99.5) fever for 36 hrs. The croup cough is gone and he seemed to be feeling better at bedtime. Now 10:30 pm his temp has dropped to 94.8 and he is dripping with sweat. He is still sleeping and in a warm comforter, 70 degrees in the bedroom. What are the potential reasons for a low temp like this? And sweaty?
Thank you!

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello

There can be two reasons
First one is that the fever is coming down, which is causing the sweat and low temperature.
Another reason, which is a cause for concern is that the infection is increasing and spreading.
I would like you to take him to the doctor as soon as possible.
Thanks
