What Is The Cause Of Chest Pains And Numbness In Hands ?

I don t want to sound like a hypochondriac, so I m afraid of looking silly if I go to a doctor. But for the past week I have been noticing a number of strange things. I have been having minor chest pains that last about a minute at a time. They can be anywhere in my upper chest area but tend to be on the left side. The pain is like a dull pounding type. Occasionally it feels more sharp. I have also been noticing my hands going numb, particularly my pinky and ring fingers. Now, a few hours ago I started to have a twitching sensation in my left temple area. When I get headaches they tend to be around that area. Could any of this be related? What could it mean? Am i over reacting? I m a 22 year old female. I don t have any major health issues, but I am overweight and I smoke cigarettes. My father had a heart attack before 50, so the chest pains make me especially nervous.

Hello.Welcome to HCM forum. You are not sounding like a hypochondriac.Your symptoms do create the doubt and along with your habit of smoking and a strong family history gives enough suspicion. You must consult a cardiologist and get all relevant tests done to exclude cardiac involvement.Whether you are having cardiac involvement or not you must quit smoking. Thanks and good luck.
