What Is The Cause Of Blisters On Hands, Feet, Fingers And Palms?

I have a skin condition that I was wondering what it might be. It is only on my hands and feet, mostly my fingers but sometimes the palm and sometimes the bottoms or sides of my feet. It has come and gone over the course of years, and doesn t seem to cause any other harmful effects so I ve left it be but now I m curious. It starts as what looks like tiny tiny blisters under my skin. Not much raised above the skin if anything. Then the area starts to dry out and the skin gets dry, hard, cracked, and somewhat discolored. White or light yellow. No pus or fluid ever comes to the surface. Sometimes the skin peels all around the area, sometimes it doesn t. Depending on how big the spot is it will go away in a few days or a few weeks, and then I might get another spot or I might not see anything at all for a while, but it always comes back before too long.

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hello,
Welcome to healthcare magic.
From your history and description, it seems that you may be having a condition called pompholyx.
It is a type is allergy which tends to recur every year, usually in certain seasons.
There is no definite cause identified, but some triggering factors include a history of atopy ( atopic eczema, nasal allergies or wheezing) , underlying fungal infections, nickel allergies ( reducing nickel containing foodstuffs can help) and external contact allergens( cement dust, certain plants, etc).
During acute episodes, you may benefit by applying hydrocortisone or fluticasone containing creams for 10-15 days. Once it starts peeling, use a moisturizer every 3 hours. Continued use may also prevent recurrences. Look for and eliminate the triggering factors.
Hope this helps you.
Take care.
