What Is The Cause Of A Lump And Back Pain?

I have lower back pain on the right side above hip. When i press the area, i feel a small lump that kind of moves Bach and forth and hurts when i push on it. It also is painful to stand up straight sometimes or moving torso in certain directions. Is it a cyst or is it a muscle that is sprained?

Hi,

Regarding your concern, I would explain that your symptoms could be related both to a cyst or a strangled muscle. That is why I would recommend consulting with your family doctor for a physical check up and some tests:

- a hip X ray study- complete blood count, PCR, sedimentation rate for inflammation.
- a lumbar column X ray study.

An ultrasound of the region would be helpful in case of soft tissue lesions, which are better identified through the ultrasound.

Hope to have been helpful. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Wishing all the best,
Dr. Aida
