Hi Doc, my son is 11months old. he keeps getting ill from time to time, usually vomiting and diarrhea, his stool is like creamy white or yellowish. I thought it was just that he is teething but its been going on for to long now. Could there be something seriously wrong with him. he takes formula milk from birth
Thanks for writing to health care magic. I can understand your concern.
This problem could be because of several causes and needs to be investigated. One of the various causes is recurrent viral infection. If there is blood or mucus in the stool we suspect dysentery. Allergy could be one cause. Lactose intolerance can result in recurrent loose stool. If it is a simple viral diarrhoea following measures will help. Monitor for signs of dehydration. They include 1. Decreased skin turgor 2. Increasing thirst. 3. Sunken eyes. 4. Irritability. 5. Drowsiness. 6. Decreasing passage of urine. Oral rehydration solution or any other solution containing salt and sugar should be given. Probiotics and Zinc prescribed by your doctor will be useful.
