What Is The Cause For Sudden Rise In The BP To 185/90?

I am a 66 yr-old, healthy male. I have been a runner for 35 years, just completing a half marathon. My blood pressure has always been around 110/60 until about 2 months ago, when it spiked to 185/90. It has been reading that since that time. What could be the cause?

Hello,
This is Dr. Klarida Papaqako answering your question.

High blood pressure has many causes. Some of them can be controlled by us, some are not possible to control.
Some causes, I will mention, that may be true in your case, are age (above 55 years old the risk is higher), genetics and family history, stress, too much salt in the diet, smoking, alcohol, overweight, Chronic kidney disease, Adrenal and thyroid disorders.

You can see by yourself, which ones are not true for you, which you have ruled out since you say you are a healthy male, and which ones you can control.

Hope information helps.
Take care.
