Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I recently had surgery for a total hysterectomy. I am 65 years old and the surgery was done in concert with a bladder lift. When I spoke with the doctor after the surgery, I was told that only 1 tube and 1 ovary were removed because the others were wrapped around my colon . I had bowel problems before the surgery and the symptoms (constipation) have increased since. The surgery was on March 10 of this year. Should I be looking for a gastroenterologist?
Hello! Thanks for putting your query in HCM. I am a Gastroenterologist.
Best solution to chronic constipation is to take lots of fibres and fluids in your diet. I mean to say lots of fruits and vegetables. Other food items that have high fibre content are oats, whole wheat , ragi, barley, greens, beans, peas, lentils.
Among allopathic medicines you can take Lactifibre which is the combination of lactitol and Isabghola, which are quite safe even for long term use. May also add polyethyleneglycol which comes in sachet or syrup form. You have to titrate the dose according to the response and severity of constipation.
Among ayurvedic medicine I prefer Cap herbolax by Himalaya company. These capsule are to be taken 4 to 6 per day in two to three divided doses.
I hope I have answered your query and this will help you . Wish you a good health
