What Is The Cause For A Swollen Ankle That Hurts?

Hi
I have a very swollen ankle that hurt when I put any pressure on. I don't remember hurting it recently. I remember this summer stepping off a side walk and getting a jolt up my leg from my ankle, but that only lasted few days. This started happening christmas eve. Went away for about a week and now it is back worse then ever. I am very concerned about this and I cannot get into see my doctor for 3 weeks and if I went to the emergency room I could be there for 24 hr. What could be the problem could it be broken or fractured? Please help.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for your query.
Your ankle pain suggest probably you had inversion injury. It's almost a year now so if any bony fracture was there it must have healed or gone into non union or mal union. I advise you to take the issue seriously and have a clinical check up and a X-ray foot with ankle AP and lateral view.
I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
Take care
