What Is The Best Way To Speed Recovery From A Wrist Injury - Exercise Or Rest?

What is the best way to speed recovery from a wrist injury - exercise or rest? I sprained my wrist playing soccer. X-Ray showed a buckle in scaphoid. Since it couldn t be determined if this was old or new trauma I got a cast/splint to be cautious for three weeks. Follow up X-Ray showed no change. Now I have had a soft thumb spike for 2 weeks. So much of my wrist and thumb (metacarpal area) still hurt. I m a mom of three little ones and need my right hand back! Thanks for your input, Sarah

Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these symptoms that you have reported. The best way is to rest the hand if it is an acute injury. If it is an old injury, then exercising the hand to make sure it stay functional and maintains its range of movements is very important. Because it hurts, am afraid this could be a result of a recent injury. Ask you doctors if they thought of aseptic necrosis of the scaphoid as this is common after a scaphoid injury.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
