What is the best therapy for pain in swollen feet and ankles?

I am having a first time symptom of swollen feet and ankles, they are also painful. I have rrms--- and have had pain and stiffness in my leg muscles pretty consistently for years, but the past few days have been first time so swollen. Elevating my feet above my hips reduces it by about half, but today is the 3rd day and my shoes don t fit.. is there something else I can do to relieve this?

How old are you? Since when you're suffering from this problem?

Causes of pedal edema is cardiac failure or renal failure or anemia or liver cell failure or cellulitis or deep vein thrombosis etc.

Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. Elevate the limbs while sleeping.

Avoid painkiller medication, if symptoms not improved please consult your physician he will examine and treat you accordingly.

My husband is experiencing problems with swollen feet, ankles painful, fever, sensitivity on the bottom of his foot when he puts pressure on it. His doctor is treating him for gout, and for bad flare ups, he is on prednisone and Colcrys. His doctor has him on Allopurinol 300mg daily. In the past two weeks, he has had two attacks--this week it is affecting his foot, last week he had problems with his left arm swelling up and painful. On July 20, he went to the emergency room because his arm was so swollen and painful. The doctor had lab works done that showed his uric acid level at 5.3. The doctor treated him for gout. An ultrasound was preformed and determined that he did not have problems with blood clots. Jim (my husband) is also on high blood pressure. He is also seeing a renal specialist once a year for kidney disease. The emergency room doctor recommended that he go so a rheumatologist. His age is 55, he weighs approx. 260 lbs, he is a mild beer and wine drinker. We don t know if it is gout, pseudo-gout, or something else. Please give us your opinion. Diane

In the past week and a half, I have noticed a unusual amount of swelling in my ankles and feet. I have had fatigue, and occasional labored breaths. I don t have any health issues that im aware of other than GERD, low thyroid and moderately high cholesterol. What could be some causes of this sudden change?
