What Is The Best Medicine For Migraine Headache?

I have recently been changed to an insurance that no longer covers my Fioricet or its generic for migraines. I have tried Imitrex, Wygraine, Midrine and cafergot in the past. Nothing helped as much as Fioricet or the generic equivalent. Can you suggest something else in this category that might be as effective? Linda de Soria

Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

I understand your concern and would explain that your symptoms could be relieved by different anti inflammatory drugs.

I would recommend trying Migretil tablets. They contain similar agents like Fioricet.

From the other hand, if your migraine attacks are really frequent (more than 3 episodes/a month), I would advise you to discuss with your attending physician the possibility of starting a preventive therapy to help reduce the severity and frequency of migraine attacks.

Verapamil, propranolol or an antidepressant would be effective for this purpose, if no contraindications.

Hope to have been helpful!

Best wishes!

Dr. Aida
