What Is Meant By Cylindrical Power?

my son is 8 yrs old and today doctors have told that ther eis a cyclindrical power and i need to do a scan to know the power. Iam really shocked because i went to doctor for his eye checkup since his eyes are reddish for past 2 days. Now my question is what is cyclindrical power? can it be reduced through any excercise or food. .. I feel it is tooo much for him to wear a glass..! pls suggest

If you take the eye is asp hear of 180 degree,the defect can be in particular axis. this is corrected by cylindrical lens of that power. this defect can not be corrected by food or exercise. this is to be corrected by cylindrical lens.
