What Is Causing Pain In Throat?

Hello, I started having pain in my throat 4 days ago, but only on the right side, and it hurts my right ear as well when I swallow. Swallowing have been very difficult since. The next day I went to see a doctor and have been told that he doesn t know what it is because its still in a really early state. I have been prescribed 500mg amoxicillin. Started taking the medication and the following day I noticed my uvula has started swelling up with clear liquid. The next day it has gotten a bit worse, I went back to see the doctor, and he changed my medication to predniSONE10mg and Amoxicillin-pot Clavulanate 875-125mg. I ve been on these new meds for the second day and see little to no results. Just now I had a very nasty, like rotten-egg taste in my throat. I tried gargling some water and it didn t get the taste away. Tried other things and accidentally activated my gag reflexes and spit out blood, along with that nasty taste. Now every time I spit there is some blood, should I be worried? I have another appointment scheduled with my doctor in about 10 hours.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have pain in throat which could be due to infection of the tonsil or pharynx, ulcer over tonsils, blockage of sinuses and respiratory tract infection. You should take green tea on daily basis in morning. Take nasal sprays on daily basis as it will open up sinuses and blood will not be discharged. Need not to worry much as blood in sputum is due to infection of sinuses. Take antibiotics along with anti-inflammatory medications. Visit pulmonologist/ ENT specialist once and get it examined if symptoms keeps on persisting. Apply humidifiers in room. Do warm saline gargles and get complete examination of blood count along with swab and sputum test. Start treatment after proper prescription.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
