What Is An Alternative Of Sinemet For The Treatment Of Parkinson S Disease?

What is an appropriate alternative to sinemet for the treatment of PD? My husband is suffering with side effects such as dizziness, feelings of being foggy-headed and nausea following every dose. Coating the stomach with non-protein snacks with the meds is not helping. He has been taking the sinemet in various dosages and forms (ER vs immediate release) over the last two years. These side effects are more of an issue to him than the tremors, etc. because he needs to lie down for 30 minutes following each dose.

Hi,

Though Sinemet is the only very effective drug for control of symptoms of Parkinson's disease. But you are right it is associated with significant side effects. For this reason, we always try to delay starting Sinemet.

In fact, there are few alternatives, like COMT inhibitors, MAO inhibitor and few more. So you can discuss this with his doctor, if this may help.
