What Is A Painful Lump Below The Rib Cage Suggestive Of?

I have a good sized lump on the upper right quadrant right below rib cage, I had a choledochal cyst removed 25 years ago and have had acute pancreatitis. The lump is extended out and is about 2 inches long by 1 inch wide. It is painful and uncomfortable, and is making it difficult to breathe at times, should I seek medical assistance right away or can I wait until I get home from a trip to PA for a week, I live in Florida.

Hi,

While it's difficult to say for sure as what this lump can be without seeing at it, but if this was not there previously and it appeared recently in a few days and it is painful.

Most likely it is a carbuncle that is an infection of the Skin, so I understand you should see your doctor as if it is an infection it may spread.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Mahboob Ur Rahman , General & Family Physician
